Amerindian land titling, demarcation to move ahead

The titling of 13 Amerindian communities and the demarcation of 33 villages will soon commence following a US$10.7M agreement signed between the Guyana Government and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Minister of Finance Dr. Ashni Singh, UNDP Resident Representative Khadija Musa and Minister of Amerindian Affairs Pauline Sukhai inked the agreement at the commencement of the National Toshaos Council (NTC) meeting this morning at the Guyana International Conference Centre, Liliendaal. NTC Chairman Derrick John bore close witness.

Micro and small enterprise development project launched to accelerate private sector growth

Micro and small businesses in Guyana will now benefit from easy access to financing with reasonable interest rates through the Micro and Small Enterprise Development (MSED) project which was launched yesterday at the Guyana International Conference Centre (GICC) at Liliendaal, Greater Georgetown. The project aims to address two major challenges which hinder the development of micro and small enterprises and the ability of vulnerable groups to build alternative livelihoods in Guyana.

Guyana signs US$5M financing agreement under GRIF- for Small and Medium Enterprises development

Guyana continues to benefit from the roll out of financial remuneration under the Guyana Redd+ Investment Fund (GRIF) for providing environmental services to the world.Today, an agreement was signed for the disbursement of funds from the GRIF to finance the execution of a third project in Guyana- the development of small and micro enterprises with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) as its partner entity.

US $5M MSE project launched

On February 27, 2013, the LCDS Micro and Small Enterprise and Building Alternative Livelihoods for Vulnerable Groups (MSE) project, funded by the Guyana REDD+ Investment Fund (GRIF), received IDB Board approval. The approval includes the release of US$5 million from the GRIF for the first phase of project execution which covers the initial two years. The Government of Guyana has long recognised the importance of micro and small enterprises to the nation as well as the need to assist vulnerable persons and groups.
